Les AMIS concerts present Canadian composers at Days of New Music in Moldova
DAYS OF NEW MUSIC, CHISINAU, MOLDOVA, October 17 to October 27, 2024
“As far as I know, the last time, the only time, Symphony No. 3 (1976) by Samuel Dolin was performed was in 1977 by the Etobicoke Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Kash. It is my honour, on behalf of Sam’s many industrious students, to be presented with an opportunity to program this Canadian work at an internationally prestigious annual festival in Chisinau, Moldova, on October 18, 2024,” writes Michael Pepa.
The performance will be by the National Orchestra of Moldova Teleradio Company, conducted by Gheorghe Mustea.
On the same concert, Violist Rivka Golani will be the guest soloist performing Michael Pepa’s Viola Concerto. Turning Point Ensemble of Vancouver, conducted by Owen Underhil, gave it the premiere performance, with Rivka as the solist, in Zagreb, Croatia, in May of 2023.
The opening concert of the festival, on October 17th is promoted as 'A Dialogue of Moldovan and Canadian Composers.’
At the opening concert, ‘A Dialogue of Moldovan and Canadian Composers,’ on October 17, 2024, Pepa was honored by being the special guest of the “Days of New Music” and was inaugurated as the Honorary Member of the Union of Composers and Musicologists of Moldova. The award was presented to him by composer Ghenadie Ciobanu, Honorary President and President of the Administrative Council of UCMM.
